Planning and Design Reflective Learning

My name is Yohanes Setiawan. Usually, people call me Yohan, just to make it shorter and more simple. My student ID is 0907JH88392. It is applicable to use in Taylors University, since, I am a student of Bachelor in International Hospitality Management. I am Indonesian. I live in Surakarta, Jawa Tengah. It is very peaceful place you should have visited once in your life. My hobby is to listen and play music. I am interested in the hotel, places where you can actually forget about every stress and relax. I am 21 this year, the age where I can make my own decision and having more responsibility. Now, I would like to tell you about my Planning Design Reflective Learning. I had an assignment to draw a restaurant layout. it is a group work and it is pretty fun, because I learn a lot from this assignment. There are 2 (two) important Taylors Graduate capabilities that I found them useful in completing my Planning and Design project. Those skills are Lifelong Learning, and Digital Literacy. Not only useful in doing my assignments, they are also useful for me to go through the subject itself.

Not only the theory I’ve studied in the classroom, is sufficient for me to survive in the real world experience. Sometimes, the theory is constrained by the situations happened or maybe, there are just some new things that we haven’t learn before while we are studying. To finish the report, we went into a survey and observe how the things are actually done. We cannot just stick into the same theory that we have known before, because the world is ever - changing.

While doing my AutoCad drawing, I find that there are also some other ways to do the same drawing. Not only the practical ways that I have been done in the class, I also can use other features in the AutoCad to make something more complicated. Now, by having the example of the model, I can do make a similar drawing. Even though, I am not yet expert, I can do far better than before I start my assignment. The drawing can be looked very simple, at first, I also struggled, because I have never done the drawing for some of the fixtures before. However, I tried to do whichever I find any blocks that I can draw by myself.

The downside part on doing in a group is that we have to keep everything in time, because one wok is related to the next one. I do not have any other difficulties to work in this team. Because, we have separated the work, where I will do on the drawing, someone help me to make some idea on how the drawing should be and the others are doing the reports. We have maximized the manpower to work on the job they are capable on. They are also supportive towards my work. They help me in the times I get difficulties.

In our group, everyone is the leaders of themselves. We are responsible to the team work and not on our own job only. Therefore, everyone is the same and there is no superiority in this group. I feel belong into the group, thus I want to give the best effort on what we are doing now.

I cannot imagine how, if we do things differently, like I am doing the report and the others are doing the drawing. Because, we are now in perfect combination and I feel this is one of the best we can have. What can be improved is the time management.

In fact, for this assignment, I have choose a different group that I’ve usually done my work with. Surprisingly, I also feel comfortable with this group, because they are supportive and understand why I do the drawing in slow pace. They also counts every of my effort on using a very minimal usage of blocks in the drawing and make it myself instead, also my effort to redo some part of the imperfect drawing, which take me a longer time to finish the restaurant layout.

I do well in the drawing part. I feel it so, because, I learn from very basic until I really understand how to operate AutoCad. I feel very satisfied when I can make one or two original fixtures in the drawing, without using the blocks. With this assignment, I really learn on maximizing the computer skill. I am not doing well in the time management, since, I consume to much of time in redo and creating a new fixtures. It makes some delay in the final report

The skill I need to improve is computer savvy. As I have mentioned, Digital Literacy is important in this assignment. Even when I can complete the AutoCad drawing until this stage, I am still slow in using the AutoCad. In example, I still take some amount of time to adjust a perfect object placement. I also use one or two blocks in the drawing, when it comes to the complex fixtures use in our restaurant design. I need to learn this skill harder, therefore, I can be much faster to finish the draw in the future, and I also can make a better drawing.

I hope you understand how fun it is to work in a group which is supportive to each member. To learn something new is very fun. Keep learning, because a life is stuck and dry without a learning progress.
